Pucon and the Villarica Volcano

Friday 19 August 2016

After a couple of hours drive from Corralco we arrived at our destination, Pucon, nestled on the side of the Volcan Villarica. Then, as the weather was awful, we went to Termas Geometricas. Beautiful natural hot springs in the Andes. Water was very hot (39 to 42 degrees), which meant that even though there was snow on the ground, it was almost too hot in the baths.

Trevor had investigated all the awesome places to eat and had found an exclusive hotel from the Relais & Chateaux group called Vira Vira. It was way too expensive to stay so we just went for dinner. Amongst other delicacies, we had wild boar, grown and butchered on their own property.

When we did our last trip to Chile we stayed in a beautiful hotel called Antumalal which was opened in the 1950s as a high end design hotel - back in the day Elizabeth (yes the Queen) even visited! And it has been maintained in its original state so it’s like walking straight onto the set of the TV show Mad Men. Absolutely beautiful.
