The Last of Our Chilean Wine Tour

Wednesday 17 August 2016

Maipo Valley was the last wine region we had to visit before leaving Santiago. It happened to be on our way back from the Colchagua Valley and on the way to the airport. It is a historic wine-producing region and the birthplace of the Chilean wine industry, with vines growing there for the past 150 years. We had planned to visit the famous winery of Viña Santa Rita, doing their premium tour, tasting their iconic high-end wines with a tour around their vineyard and extensive gardens. And then, of course, lunch. The vineyard was established in 1880. On-site was a museum with a reasonably extensive archaeological collection of Andean cultural artifacts. As we arrived a little early for our tour we had about forty minutes to check out the museum, which was really excellent. Then a tour of the winery and extensive gardens.
