Did Someone Say Thermal Baths?

Friday 2 September 2016

We do like a thermal bath, so with all these volcanoes around it is hardly surprising that there was a very nice natural thermal bath just out of town. So we headed there for an hour or so of luxuriating before we had to head off for the airport and a very long and gruelling flight home. It was situated in base of a canyon.

The water was crystal clear, the fish liked it, the birds liked it, Trevor liked it, Michelle liked it. What more needs to be said?

Like Termas Geométricas that we visited in Southern Chile, this was a thermal bath that had retained most of it’s natural setting; but instead of being surrounded by temperate rain forest, this time we were surrounded by desert. It was a little oasis of self-indulgent pampering. At around 3,500 meters, the outside temperature was pretty cold and we rushed to get into the warm water of the baths which at around 34 degrees were the perfect temperature for a relaxing soak.

The complex follows the natural flow of the stream, with a series of pools for people to sit in. We found a place all to ourselves and just pottered around for an hour or so. We would have loved to stay longer, but hey, we had a plane to catch.
