Our awesome trip to Chile and Argentina August 2016
No Pinot Left Behind
Friday 2 September 2016
After three days, we decided to have a quick look at the town before we left. Not much going on here, this is the main street.
After promising Michelle that there was absolutely plenty of petrol and that we really, really didn’t need to fill up before we left San Pedro de Atacama, turned out Trevor forgot that there was actually a large mountain out of town that the little car had to climb, and so we almost ran out of fuel again. Lucky for Trevor, he was able to drive in the slip stream of a large bus for most of the journey, saving petrol and saving his bacon.
Notwithstanding that we had twelve bottles of Chilean and Argentinian wine in our luggage to bring back to Australia, we also had a small amount of our holiday drinking wine left over. Being the wine lovers that we are, we simply couldn’t leave any wine behind. Knowing the South Americans are not irrational about liquids at the airport, we knew we could take it through baggage check and have a final goodbye drink at the airport. We got some strange looks from other passengers as we sat at the boarding gate with our glasses of wine.
On the flight back to Santiago, we had nice view over the Andes.
Wine farms in the desert
One of the large open cut mines we flew over
As we flew south there was more snow on the mountains
As we flew closer to Santiago, the sunset over the Andes, the last thing we saw before heading home. Such an amazing place. Can't wait to come back.
